70 Years of Geological Excellence
Building Earth Scientists for the World.
Established nearly 70 years ago by Prof. Dr. S. S. Merh, the Geology Department of The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda stands as one of India's most prominent centres for geological education and research. With 23 specialised subjects, extensive field-based learning, and more than 125 PhDs, our alumni today contribute across global industries, national research organisations, and sustainable development sectors.

About the Department
A legacy shaped by The Department of Geology
The Department of Geology was established in the year 1951 initially in the Faculty of Technology and Engineering with limited staff and equipment's with undergraduate teaching. The present venue of the Department in the Faculty of Science was established in 1965 with full fledged undergraduate, postgraduate courses and research programmes in varied disciplines of Geology.
An extension wing was added in 1987. At present there are 12 faculty members in the Department, of which six are Professors.

Testimonials that build trust.
Short, authentic stories from alumni across sectors reassure prospective students and parents about the department's impact.
I belong to 1971 MSc batch. I started my professional career from Geological Museum, ISM (now IIT), Dhanbad during 1976. I was associated with the Division of Minerals, Gems and Meteorites, American Museum of Natural History, New York. Some specimens collected by me were donated by me to California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco and Baroda Museum and Picture Gallery.
I passed MSc in the year 1980 from MSU Vadodara. I started my career as Geologist from August 1980 at Gujarat Engineering Research Institute Vadodara. I retired as Geologist (sr) in the year 2016
